“Charlie Kater makes small wall-based reliefs. These structures are geometric, but they have a playful and lighter feel due to a certain handmade quality and lack of complete symmetry. They are well made but with an imprecision built into that craft. The fabrication method and revealed materials such as scrim and fillers allow us to see through the layers of process in these works. In a commercial house-build, for example, these elements might be seen as flaws, but here they give depth to the pieces, which are not just about surface.” Text by Robert Moon, curator of the exhibition “Maquette” at No Show Space London, December 2022.
